Melville

The suburb of Melville is named after Melville Water on the Swan River, which was named after Robert Dundas, the second Viscount Melville. Captain James Stirling named Melville Water during explorations of the Swan River in March 1827, two years before the settlers arrived to establish the new colony in Western Australia. The area of Melville was first proposed for development in 1896 as Melville Park Estate but it really only forged ahead after the Second World War.
