Independent Member for Alfred Cove, Dr Janet Woollard, is calling on the community to play a part in being environmentally friendly and use World Environment Day (WED) on 5 June to jumpstart their efforts.

“While Governments worldwide, including Australia, are developing schemes and policies to combat climate change, each and everyone of us can play significant roles in saving the environment,” said Dr Woollard.

“Community effort does not need to involve grand gestures as simple everyday tasks can go a long way to reduce waste and pollution, save energy, cut down greenhouse emissions and make our environment a nicer place to be in.

“I would like to share 10 simple things you can do immediately. Some of these may be familiar to the community, but they demonstrate how easy it is to be an environmental saviour.”

Dr Woollard’s tips are presented in Annex 1.

“These tips will not only help towards saving the environment but they are also cost saving for individuals and families,” said Dr Woollard.

Dr Woollard said community efforts to save the environment is in line with the international WED theme of “Your Planet Needs You – Unite to Combate Climate Change”.

“It takes small steps to achieve big goals hence, each of us can make a difference for the environment if we do our bit along with scientists, businesses and governments,” said Dr Woollard.
