Inquiry into the Tobacco Products Control Amendment Bill 2008

The Education and Health Standing Committee (Committee), which Janet chairs, carried out an inquiry into the Tobacco Products Control Amendment Bill 2008 which Janet tabled in Parliament in November 2008.  The terms of reference for the Inquiry were:

  • To consider the adequacy of the proposed actions in the bill to protect children and adults from the harmful consequences of passive smoking.
  • To consider the adequacy of the proposed actions in the bill to protect children and adults from tobacco promotion.

The Committee received more than 60 submissions from organisations such as the Harvard School of Public Health, Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, WA Commissioner for Children and Young People, the Australian Medical Association, University of California, the Australian Council on Smoking and Health.

The Committee tabled the report entitled Inquiry into the Tobacco Products Control Amendmenment Bill 2008 following the inquiry on 12 March 2009. 

The Government's response to the Committee's report was received in June 2009.
