Janet co-hosted the 2010 AusBiotech-GSK Student Excellence Awards in the Aboriginal People's Room at Parliament House on 14 October 2010.  The Award recognises and encourages student researchers in their chosen fields of life science, biotechnology and bio-engineering. 

The 2010 winner was Attadale resident Mr Stephen Karl, a PhD student at the University of Western Australia.  Stephen's research was into high sensitivity detection of malaria transmitting cells.
